Gary Donnelly's reply to faceless Republican ? critic
Last week in the derry journal an anonymous letter was published on credibility of so called micro groups.

I will paste Gary's reply and the original letter plus the links.

Letter shows arrogance of those trying to dupe the republican base

Sir
The recent letter by 'Republican Activist' is very welcome, despite its inept attempt to pillory my opinions.
It is welcome because it demonstrates some of the techniques of deception that have been repeatedly used to misinform and manipulate the republican base by a politically corrupt leadership and their lackeys.

For example when quoting the IRA Constitution from Martin Dillon's 'Dirty War' - and the title is appropriate here - Republican Activist censors the words 'Oglaigh na hEireann' when quoting the first means of pursuing the struggle, i.e.: 'Organise Oglaigh na hEireann for victory'. Derry Journal readers can check this out for themselves. In doing so, they might also notice that the document Republican Activist chooses to back up his/her critique of my position is less than conducive to the points he/she is trying to make (or score).

Participation in subservient parliaments such as Stormont and Westminster is strictly forbidden along with pledges of allegiance to institutions that recognise partition, and the list goes on.
However these details are not important to Republican Activist; truth is not important; honesty is not important. Which brings me back to my original point: deception of the republican base is a crucial plank in Provisionalism's so-called 'strategy'. If the British Government ever devised a strategy to destroy the IRA and the Republican Movement it would look very like the one we've seen unfold these past 10-20 years. Readers are capable of drawing their own conclusions.

A second reason why Republican Activist's letter is welcome is because it amply demonstrates the sheer arrogance of Provisionalism. He/she shamelessly takes ownership of 'the IRA that fought the war' and 'revolutionary credibility'. I would point out that many hudnreds of ex-POWs and volunteers who fought the war as members of the IRA have gone on the record as being disenchanted with the current leadership and strategy. Many of them voted for Peggy O'Hara. Republican Activist cannot airbrush these people out of history the way he/she airbrushed the words 'Oglaigh na hEireann' out of the document he/she misquoted.

That arrogance is blinding is demonstrated by Republican Activist's attempt to imply that those who concur with my position are tools of British intelligence - despite the deluge of high-profile Provisionsals being taken into protective custody by their handlers. More convenient airbrushing, especially given the fact that the Provisional Movement have endorsed the PSNI, including Special Branch and their practice of recruiting informers to spy upon Republicans. Meanwhile, M15 plot global terror from their new HQ in Belfast. No doubt Republican Activist will blame 'micro groups' for these developments.

Finally, Republican Activist refers to the IRA volunteers across Ireland who play important roles in their communities. I acknowledge the importance of this activism. Sadly, the word 'volunteer' seems inappropriate to many of these individuals who are, in fact, highly paid 9 - 5 office personnal who, quite often, no longer live in the working-class communities they purport to serve. When drug-dealers and criminals blight the community the stock response of many of these people is: 'my hands are tied, go to the PSNI'. Not all community workers and activists fit this description; the readers can identify those I refer to.

I'd like to thank Republican Activist for his/her letter which demonstrated my points much more clearly than any commentary I could make on it. I'm slightly disappointed that Republican Activist feels the need to use their right to anonymity and I'd encourage them come out and stand over their views.

Is mise
