"The Connolly Column" by Michael O'Riordan is probably the best source on the Irishmen who fought in the International Brigades. And it was recently republished.
"Irish Politics and the Spanish Civil War" by Fearghal McGarry is a good academic book about both the Connolly Column and O'Duffy's Bandera.
"Frank Ryan: The Search for the Republic" by Seán Cronin is the best biography of Ryan, but it can be hard to come by.
Adrian Hoar's "In Green and Red: The Lives of Frank Ryan" is a more recent book that's good too. But stay away from McGarry's hackjob biography.

There's been very little done about the Connolly Column itself. There was a programme on TG4 based on Eugene Downing's memoirs, called "La Niña Bonita agus An Róisín Dubh".
