I read in a book, that one could well argue that the Period of the War of Independence and the following Civil War after the Anglo-Irish Treaty was actually a Civil War right from the start...What do you think about that?

I would have to disagree although I can see where you are coming from.
The two major distinctions being that during the "War of Independence"(January 1919 - July 1921) we were fighting aginst the British army.
In the Civil War (June 28, 1922 – May 24, 1923) we were fighting against our fellow Irishmen on whether to accept the "Free State" or not.
