Ógra Shinn Féin activist Cllr. Johnny McGibbon has reacted angrily to this week’s widespread and mainstream media coverage of the 12th July Parades.
Cllr. McGibbon has questioned why similar coverage is not afforded particularly on BBC and UTV for the annual 1916 Easter Commemorations.
Cllr. McGibbon commented,
“Both BBC and UTV aired a dedicated 30 minute programme of the orange order parades throughout the north, spending considerable time, effort and resources to promote the 12th July parades.”
“There is no similar practice by the BBC and UTV to cater for their Republican and Nationalist audience, by covering the annual Easter 1916 Commemorations which take place annually across Ireland, including the north.”
“With the signing of the Good Friday Agreement, a flourishing peace process and republican’s in government in the assembly; it is an absurdity that our rights, and history are being ignored by these media bodies.”
“In the year ahead Ógra Shinn Féin intend to lobby and campaign to ensure that next year’s Easter 1916 Commemoration’s are afforded the proper media coverage which they deserve. Our rights and our history will not be ignored.”

Ye better go and paint their post box!
That'll put manners on them!
(Im only kiddin)
It's a disgrace the amount of coverage them scumbags got. Cant see them televising Republican parades though.
Are O$F campaigning to have ALL Republican easter parades given the proper coverage, not just the shinners parades?
the bbc/utv regard the 12th in the same way as st patricks day i would imagine, that is what there response would be if they bother at all.

trying to reform the British Broadcasting Company? and if they were to show easter parades, then they would have to say, that irish republicans get fair coverage on the british broadcasting company.
i am glad that they dont have commemoration covered, for then they are not about ramming it down people's throats, like they are with the 12th
if you want to go to a parade/commem, then go.... you dont need a tv crew there. and i dont want to see commems put on the same level as 12th bigot fest... as then they would say "look at these two ignorant cultures , one as bad as other.
i dont want equal status with orangemen inside a fair and equitable UK.

It's good that someone has came out and said something about this subject. Not only was it bad enough that those scum were all over the streets, they were all over the TV too.
There's no way those c**ts should have had all that coverage. Still, the BBC and UTV don't understand the fact that they offend a lot of people by putting that crap on air.

You have hit the nail on the head. I wrote to both organisations re: orange parades. Only one responded with waffle equating st patricks day to the 12th of July:eusa_think:

This is a bit dodgy if you ask me.
You're almost equating the 12th with Easter Rising commemorations.

Well I see room for comparison. They were both military events.
That both included armed engagement is where the comparison begins and ends.
I'm not happy with the two of them being compared.
why would people want the british propaganda at Republican parades?
