The court has to make its decision before midnight tomorrow as that is when the local election campaign officially starts
The Basque political party ANV, Acción Nacionalista Vasca, has announced that they are to appeal in the Constitutional Court against the decision of the Supreme Court to declare 133 of their candidates lists null and void under the Ley de Partidos, electoral law.
The number represents 52% of the total number of candidates put forward by the ANV.
The Supreme Court was asked to take the action by the Government which considers that people on those candidate lists for the local elections are linked to Batasuna, the outlawed political wing of ETA.
The Constitutional Court has only until midnight tomorrow to make their decision in the case, because that is the official start of the election campaign.
Meanwhile in the Prime Minister’s Question Time in Congress today, the leader of the Partido Popular, Mariano Rajoy, is to ask whether the Government has done all possible to avoid Batasuna putting up candidates at the elections.
