Just imagine the mix between Napoleon and Thatcher, it'll give you the new French President. Nicolas Sarkozy was elected last month, this little man won the elections by chasing on the land of the far right Le Pen's National Front. He claimed that getting the French nationalities must be deserved. For many years he's been Minister of Police and Security, what a program...
This bourgeois' friend wants people to work longer to get more money without doing anything against unemployment. He wants people to pay more VAT, and bourgeois less taxes. He wants universities to turn into bankable corporations.
He wants to get closer to the American action in Middle-East.
So people in France are in a big ****, workers will suffer more than ever. So watch out!

I don't like the look of him at all. The working class areas will get marginalised.

The working class areas will get marginalised.
Don't tell me but it's already done, remember in 2005 there was riot, it was because of him. He just said young suburbia people were 'scum' and needed to be cleaned with Kärscher, 2 days after two 17 year old boy died after been hunted by police. It set the working class areas on fire.
The American medias said it was a Muslim riot

I really loathe France's semi-xenophobic brand of nationalism, especially due to their self-proclaimed "progressive" stances on everything else. The fact that this is a country where such a high percentage of people voted for Le Penn and the National Front ten years ago is by itself disturbing. Sarkozy's election isn't a whole lot more comforting.
I also think Irish nationalists should go out of their way to avoid falling into the same trap.

I think the problem is deeper then a semi-xenophobic thing. Most of the people who voted Le Pen a few years ago wasn't nazis or fascists, most of them voted for him thought it would make chock the politician class, right and left, because people are bored. I remember a documentary on TV when journalists asked to a guy who voted Le Pen if he was racist the guy said " not at all, I just want Right and Left to react and act...". I think people are disappointed about all of it, in 1981 everybody was happy to see the socialist Mitterand elected, 3 years later they were disappointed because his program wasn't socialist anymore and then every 5 years Right is elected and Left is elected and so on.
Sarkozy is a kind of new way of being President, he's young, can be everywhere at the same time, he's a new way of change. But people will be disappointed again because he's the friend of the upper class, tycoons and stuff. Everything he planned to do is against people's interest.
Vote Le Pen or Sarkozy, because it'll change, is not a proper way. But in the same time, the Left wing of the Socialist Party (Labour)+Communist Party ( linked to Moscow, which had been strong till the 1980's) is growing up.
So I think France isn't the way you said...
