Derry SDLP Hypocrisy exposed.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement have exposed the hypocrisy of the SDLP in Derry city regarding the naming and shaming of Drug Dealers and anti social elements in the city. SDLP councillor Shaun Gallagher condemned threats to name and shame anti community elements in Galliagh as dangerous and while acknowledging that there was popular support for the actions of the Republican Movement stated “Everyone is entitled to a proper trial and to be judged by a jury of their peers,”
Meanwhile in relation to soccer fans from Dublin engaging in anti social behaviour the message from the SDLP was quite different with councillor Sean Gallagher applauding the action of a judge who railroaded three fans straight to Maghaberry without said ‘proper trial’ and without ‘a jury of their peers’. Councillor Carr stated he hoped that there would be “swift and strong action against vandals in future."
The 32 County Sovereignty Movement stand by our decision to assist local communities in tackling anti social behaviour such as vandalism and drug dealing and we will stand by the actions of the republican movement should they deem it necessary to take ‘swift and strong action against vandals in future’.

Message Ends.

Dissidents defend 'name and shame' move

Republicans in the city have defended moves to "name and shame" those allegedly responsible for anti-social behaviour in Derry.

Local SDLP councillor Shaun Gallagher spoke out against the move last week after the names of a number of individuals were circulated in the Galliagh area.

The Shantallow councillor believes the move could lead to vigilante attacks, insisting that everyone is entitled to a fair trial.

He said: "This is not the way to do things. This move has caused a lot of concern in the Galliagh area because people are worried where it will lead. We are long past the days of vigilantism and people coming to homes in the middle of the night and kneecapping people."

However, a spokesperson for the 32 County Sovereignty Movement responded: "We stand by our decision to assist local communities in tackling anti social behaviour and we will stand by the actions of the republican movement should they deem it necessary to take 'swift and strong action against vandals in future'."
