It remained unclear last night (Tuesday) whether Ogra Shinn Fin had expelled a teenage member who fell from the roof of an Orange hall.
The 17-year-old was arrested after falling from the roof on the Shimna Road in Newcastle, Co Down, on August 25. At the time Ogra Shinn Fin confirmed that one of its members "took a fall in the vicinity of an Orange hall". It happened at the same time as police responded to reports of "suspicious activity".
It had been reported at the time that a Union flag was removed from the building.
A police spokeswoman last night confirmed that the 17-year-old youth had been interviewed and released pending a report to the youth diversion officer.
"The interview was in connection with an incident on Saturday 25 August shortly before 2.45am involving suspicious activity at the Orange Hall on Shimna Road were a male had fallen from the building," she said.
Last night it remained unclear if the teenager is still a member of Ogra Shinn Fin after a spokesman declined to comment further on the matter.
Earlier this week, a member of Sinn Fin who attacked a pub in Derry was dismissed from the party.
Francis O'Reilly (29) is serving three months in prison for damaging the Tavern Bar on the edge of the Fountain estate. The party said he was "summarily dismissed" after his involvement in the attack became known. The trouble came ahead of Derry City's game against Bohemian FC.
