Ecuador's leftist President Rafael Correa said Washington must let him open a military base in Miami if the United States wants to keep using an air base on Ecuador's Pacific coast.

Correa has refused to renew Washington's lease on the Manta air base, set to expire in 2009. U.S. officials say it is vital for counter-narcotics surveillance operations on Pacific drug-running routes.

"We'll renew the base on one condition: that they let us put a base in Miami -- an Ecuadorean base," Correa said in an interview during a trip to Italy.

"If there's no problem having foreign soldiers on a country's soil, surely they'll let us have an Ecuadorean base in the United States."

I think the Federal Government should most deffinately allow Ecuador and other countries to have bases on their soil. At least nations that they have bases in, like South Korea, Germany and obviously Ecuador. Of course they probably won't because they are just that way. Thats my opinion.

God bless y'all!

The US Government injects itself into any country it can but seldom allows other countries to inject a military presence into their economy. The US have bases in something like 132 countries today. If the US allow them to do this, which is unlikely, I'm sure they'll make their lives a living hell.

Drug trafficking me bollox. I'm sure they need it as a strategic node for Echelon.

Fair play to the Rafael Correa though. He'll do well to expose the hypocrisy of the US Government.
