RSF welcome release of Tyrone two.

15 Samhain/November 2007

In a statement on November 14th, RSF Publicity Officer Richard Walsh welcomed the release on Wednesday night of a former Republican prisoner and his sister. The two were being held at Antrim Barracks following their arrests in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

He said: “We believe that these arrests were merely the latest in a catalogue of harassment of those seeking an end to English rule in Ireland. However, we will not allow ourselves to be diverted from the path of true Republicanism.

“We hope that the former PoW will now be able to rebuild his life on the outside. Clearly the British have sought to deny him this opportunity through his arrest just a few short weeks after his release. The Provos have been quick to criticise attacks on the British Colonial Police, but were remarkably silent on the plight of these two individuals. It is abundantly clear where their loyalties now lie.”

the peelers said they lifted them as part of their 'investigation' of the dungannon shooting but they were just trying to intimidate the former POW and his family

Disgraceful and so typical of the way pow's and their families are treated lately. Do you know if this arrest was the result of someone calling into psni because sinn fein has encouraged it?
I am finding that since sinn fein is encouraging this touting on republicans that there is a rise of real republicans being interrogated and harassed for no reason. Just my own observation here.

no it has nothing to do with the provos they lifted him because he is a former POW and they want to intimidate and harass him and his family

I completely agree with your statement about the RUC/PSNI's recent behaviour, scarface. They were simply using Óglaigh na hÉireann's attempted assassination of an RUC/PSNI officer as an excuse to intimidate Stiophan Ó Dalaigh and his sister.

Saw this statement on the IRBB:

Former I.R.A Prisoner of War and Officer Commanding the Protesting Prisoners in Magaberry Jail Stiophan O Dalaigh was welcomed home at a Large Function held in Armagh on Friday Night.

Hundreds packed into the Pearse Ogs club in Armagh city to welcome back a True Irish Soldier cut from the same cloth as the men of 81, their was a sense of joy by the crowd to have Stiophan back with his own once again.

Released three weeks ago Stiophan was just settling back into family life when the Crown Forces decided they would also welcome him home, attacking his house last week cutting the door of with a chainsaw and arresting Stiophan and his younger sister, in relation to an attack on the Crown Forces in Dungannon.

Stiophan's Sister said she was terrified and thought it was a Loyalist Murder bid, she said they took me to Antrim and I was thrown into a cold damp cell, I did not know why I had been arrested and felt all alone but suddenly I could hear singing, I thought who would be singing in this hell hole, I put my ear to the wall and realized it was a rebel song.

Unknown to Stiophans Sister her Brother had just been thrown into a cell a couple of doors down and on hearing a woman’s voice with a country accent Stiophan began singing to let his sibling know she was not alone and to give her courage, such a small weapon as a human voice can be used to great affect when you have nothing else said Stiophan.

The Main speaker on the Night was Sinn Fein President Ruairi O Bradaigh who gave an emotional Oration welcoming Stiophan back among his Comrades and presenting him with a hand crafted Harp made by his Comrades in Portlaoise.

People came to the Function from all over Ireland and i remember seeing a small woman who at 89 years of age came all the way from Cork to welcome home this Irish Soldier, their were buses from Dungannon Newry Dublin and Fermanagh and people turned up in cars from all over the country.

I think this was disgusting, this man was recently relased and i am quite sure the Brits knew he wsn't involved in any way but because, while they knew who didn't do it. they hadn't a billy ocean who had and so struck out at the nearest identifiable republican.
