NO WELCOME IN CLARE FOR POLICE CHIEF

The behaviour of Clare politicians in fawning over the head of the police force in the Six Counties is an insult to the Republican tradition of the county, a spokesman for Republican Sinn Fein said today.

Paddy Kenneally, from Crusheen, the RSF Chairman in Clare said that the exhibition put on by some of the local County Councillors at Ennistymon at the weekend was a national disgrace. They not only welcomed the head of the police force but fawned upon him and did all this in the name of promoting tourism, he said.

By their actions they have now made tourism a political issue and instead of being honest they are hiding behind the so called economic benefits to the county. There should be no welcome in Clare for the head of a discredited police force until such time that the British declare their intention to withdraw from the Six Counties.

In all this talk about co-operation and tourism, they forget that partition still exists and a border still disfigures the island of Ireland. The hard facts are that Republicans are in prison and being denied political status and the root cause of conflict, the armed British presence, is still in Ireland. That is why we had a picket on the Falls Hotel for eight hours over the weekend when the RUC/PSNI chief was in Clare.
