Tension building up between Russian & Europe/US

The US is currently planning on placing missile defense systems in eastern Europe, Russia is taking this as a provocative action and has stated firmly that unless the US withdraws, they will target European targets.

Putin has already stated that he believes he is the only true democrat in the world and laughed at Britains request to extradite a possible person in that spy death case.

Iran is also becoming very vocal against the US, as is Russia. Russian/Iranian ties seem to be close.

Unless the tension dies down, we're looking at another cold war - or even worse.

i'd say it's only big talk they are not stupid enough to go to war with each other

well, the cold war wasnt really a "war" - it was just to see who could flex their muscle more and stand out as the supreme superpower of the world.

russia feels like their say is becoming lessened, and they are starting to make bold statements to prove that they are still a force in global politics.

I think scarface is correct - neither of them WANT a war.. it would kill both of their economies and could result in the deaths of 10's of millions. Let's hope Bush can smoothen this over with Putin.. I highly doubt it. I can see why Putin thinks that the US is pushing it's weight around, but that's no excuse to threaten Europe.

Bush is now defending this farce. I think and hope Putin was referring to Poland and Czech Rep. when he said Europe.

Looks like he's going to go forward with it. It's this that scares me by Putin.

Washington is upsetting the strategic balance of the world, and he will not be responsible for retaliatory steps if the plan goes through. Mr. Putin told reporters in Moscow that Russia would respond by setting new targets in Europe that could be hit with ballistic missiles or cruise missiles or what he called a "completely new system."
