Successful Shell Picket - Finglas Road - 19/01/08
Organised by the CYM
Members of the CYM, OSF, IRSP, Dublin S2S and the WSM, along with a number of independent activists, turned out in strength to show their opposition to the construction of the experimental onshore gas refinery in Mayo, and to oppose the give-away of Ireland's national resources to a transnational giant with a terrible track record in all respects, except making profit that is!
The picket started at 12 noon and finshed up some time around 1:50. This was the second picket in the series of pickets organised by the Connolly Youth Movement to take place once a month outside the Shell garage on the Finglas road, opposite Glasnevin Cemetery. The weather held off for the entirety. The picket was successful in dissuading all but a few motorists from entering the garage. There was much support from passing motorists with the customary 'hoot' of the horn from every second car, showing the level of support for the S2S campaign. There was also much support from passers by, many stopping to inquire about the campaign, and to give their support.
The Connolly Youth Movement will continue this series of pickets on the Finglas Road, once a month for the foreseeable future and would encourage any other groups to do S2S pickets in their own local areas as well, to keep up the pressure on Shell and the state.

Indeed. It is vital for republicans to get active in day to day ssues that affect the country as a whole and individual workers in the community.

This wasnt a Republican Unity initiative, Connolly Youth organised it and it was open to all. Glad to hear independents from RSF were there also.

It didnt mention RSF in the article, only "independent activists" so i assumed thats who they were talking about. Was RSF offically there so?

Yes and i took what was said in the article "independent activists" and what was said by scarface "RSF Members" and assumed he/she ment they were their on their own accord and not officially and i used the prase "independents from RSF" . I then asked you where they there officially as i would like to know if they were in favour of getting involved in other organisations protests and pickets because of the confusion with this in the past. Whats the answer?

1)It was carried in SAOIRSE
2) There were RSF members there just like the irsp fellas.
3) RSF has been involved in Shell to Sea since day one.
That is what i know. What i also know id that unlike others that were present they arent posting it as if it was their event.

I think your a little bit over sensitive. This article was made by CYM and i copied and pasted it here exactly as it was written. I added the IRSP pic to show they were in attendence and i put t on the IRSP page. Now please show me exactly where i posted it as though it was an IRSP event?
PS Did you miss this at the top of my thread? "Organised by the CYM"

Id also like to say that the pic was a part of the original article, i didnt sneekly take my own pic and ad it to the article about the event.

ok then thats that answered I was wrong, an event organised by someone other than the IRSP attended by others than the IRSP belongs in your subforum. It wasn't an RSF event it doesnt belong there. They like teh IRSP merely attended someone elses event.

Comment from CYM on Indymedia.
Just a word to the IRSP people who come to the pickets.
We're trying to encourage people not to bring huge party banners to the pickets. People should come for the issue, not for the self promotion of their organisation.
The organisers, just being silly.

I didnt waffle about anything.
You wanted to know if the RSF people there were as 'there' as the last two irsp lads. I do not know how to answer this unless you believe they were holograms.
Ands fair play to ya, you wanted to show how active the irsp are by this. well done. I had no issue with this, i have issue with when you tried to imply that the RSF members present were somehow less there and that they were independants or some craic. RSF has been attending and supporting this case since the begining. Its not new.

No the issue is with you saying i posted the article as though it was an IRSP event, when clearly i didnt and you are now unable to admit this. Me asking you were RSF there was merely an interest because they were not mentioned in the article and i wondered why.
Ands fair play to ya, you wanted to show how active the irsp are by this. well done. I had no issue with this,
Yes you did, you said you had a problem by the way i posted it as though it was an IRSP event.
i have issue with when you tried to imply that the RSF members present were somehow less there and that they were independants or some craic.
I wasnt the one who used the term independents first. I took it from the article which mentioned all parties there and also some independents. Because RSF were not named i used the phrase "independents from RSF" To tie it in with the article. If you have a problem with RSF not being mentioned in the article why dont you bring it up with CYM?
RSF has been attending and supporting this case since the begining. Its not new.

Thanks for posting the article, congrats to all that were involved.
Tour,
Give it a rest, it should be enough that the protest was a success instead of finding fault. When are we going learnh to fight together instead of against each other. No wonder things are like they are now!
