Scottish loyalists for parade protest

By Staff reporter
LOYALISTS in Scotland are gearing up for a protest against a Bloody Sunday commemoration parade in Glasgow which has been re-routed by police.
The procession by Cairde na h’Eireann – Friends of Ireland – was blocked from the city centre for fear of a repeat of unrest which has marred it in the past.

Glasgow councillors agreed to a police recommendation that Saturday’s march be diverted in a bid to avoid a confrontation with Rangers Football Club supporters attending a home fixture that afternoon.

Meanwhile, loyalists are planning a protest at the parade which some have suggested could involve several hundred republicans.

In the chatroom of one Scottish loyalist web bloggers spoke of the need “to get a protest sorted”.

“A real protest would be 5,000 loyalists out in force at George Square, in reality we’ll have 500 hard-core loyalists, the same faces you see everywhere,” said one blogger of a loyalist group which has attracted criticism for inciting religious hatred.

Another blogger said it was an “affront” to allow the Friends of Ireland to parade the streets of Glasgow.

Cairde na h’Eireann had wanted to start marching at noon on Saturday from Blythswood Square, but councillors deferred to police advice which recommended the route be switched from potential trouble spots and start at 9.30am. The parade, which commemorates the killing of 14 civilians by the Army in Northern Ireland in 1972, has been a target for violence in the past.

In 2006 around 400 protestors threw missiles at the 1,000 marchers and the previous year there were three arrests when shoppers had to take cover as around 300 people tried to ambush the procession at Queen Street station.

The fact that this year’s march clashes with a home fixture for Rangers has prompted fears that the police will be stretched marshalling both events.

Deputy council leader Jim Coleman said: “The police made the point that the march last year passed off reasonably peacefully without any real disruption to the public or any arrests.”

Murph..its actually the called Parachute Regiment, be nice if you gave a mention to the 6 cleaning woman and Priest the IRA killled when it bombed Aldershot in revenge, wheres their justice ?

Back on topic, obviously loyalists have a right to protest as do republicans...............they don't have a right to commit civil disturbance, nor march in the uniforms which represent illegal organisations.

The same as I support the right of FAIR to march in Dublin or republicans in Glasgow,

Thats the whole point the fact Republicans claim to support civil rights but don't give a toss about those killed by IRA bombs (what about their civil rights) is what makes the whole thing so incredibly hypocritical and makes the republican movement politically very untrustworthy.

Jerry, le do thoil, ná bi ag usaid na focail "plastic Paddy", tá a lan duine le thuismitheoiri gaeilge ag deanamh saorobair. Nil se ar lucht bhi ar a dtuismitheoiri Érin a fagail.

Jerry, please, don't use the term plastic paddy. There are a lot of people who's parents/grandparents left this country through no fault of their own, many of these people do great work on behalf of Ireland/republicanism and irish culture. A term like "plastic paddy" is taken by many to be insulting.

I've marched in Birmingham and Mansfield back in the 1980's and it was preety scary stuff. Respect to all those who march in Scotland to highlight Irish issues

Was it not the republican Christie Moore who invented the term plastic Paddy and even made a song mocking plastic Paddies ?

So its ok for you to march in Birmingham, a city who's citizens were bombed by the PIRA but not Fair to march in Dublin ?

This is just more of your movements incredible hypocrisy.

No wonder many turn tout, it must create alot of mental confusion, knowing your moral position is phony.

1. Who said I opposed any March In Dublin. If you look at my earlier posts you'll see I support the OO marching in Paddy's Day parades. I also support the FAIR March in Dublin. They are fellow Irishmen who have the right to have their voice heard in the capital city.

2. The pub bombings would be a different thread.

3. Christy Moore is not Bruce almighty. Many Irish people born oversees find the term offensive. Me for one. I was lucky in that circumstances allowed me and my family to return, others did not have that luck. Look around this forum, some of the best posters are non-irish born, just be nice and show respect for other groups. it costs very little.

A difference of day and night in those two cities.

1. Birmingham has a massive Irish population. As a hun you should well know. A big population like that are well entitled to commemerate people who were brutally murdered by your more than willing(security forces) murder squads.

2. Dublin has no loyalist tradition, or wants to.
So why would they want to have a sectarian scumbag like Willie Frazer marching past the GPO.

This is a republican site. As for criticising loyalism, loyalism falls into two catagories, old style establishment unionism, which was that which held power in the north and obviously played a role through its subjugation of the Catholic community helped create the conditions that led to the last 35 years conflict, and reactionary under class loyalism, which has to be addressed from a social perspective, not just a political one.

I never referred to FAIR as a truth commission.

I don't think you are aware of the fact senior PIRA figures were also aided on occasions by the security services.

Further, it would destroy the political reputations of various Sinn Fein politicans, which is why Sinn Fein don't want it either.

Some of the accusations of collusion are truly staggering.

Including one which claims MI6 helped the INLA murder Airey Nieve and is highly plausible.

Feared UVF gang murdered while protected by police
Belfast Telegraph (http://www.sundaylife.co.uk/news/article2172747.ece)
By Stephen Breen

The Police Ombudsman's explosive report on the murder of Raymond McCord jnr will tomorrow reveal how a notorious gang of loyalist informers were responsible for more than 15 murders.

And Nuala O'Loan's four-year probe into the activities of the Mount Vernon UVF will outline how the feared unit and its leader - top spy Mark Haddock - were being protected during their 12-year reign of terror.

Sunday Life

Sunday Life today reveals that one of the UDA's 'brigadiers' is a spy and that he wanted to stand down following the IRA's spectacular break-in at Special Branch HQ at Castlereagh. He was persuaded to stay on following meeting with his handlers in London. Security journalist Brian Rowan examines the implications of the latest revelations about the 'dirty war'

The meeting in London at which the UDA brigadier was present confirms what the SDLP's Alex Attwood is saying.

It is the proof that the business of the dirty war and agent running went to the very top of the paramilitary organisations.

I have known about that London meeting for a considerable period of time - known who was there and what it was about.

So why reveal it now?

Maybe because one of the biggest pieces in that jigsaw of our past is that relationship between Special Branch, the Army, MI5 and the agents or informers.

It could be the gaping hole in the Eames-Bradley report - not because they will choose or want to ignore it, but because this particular jigsaw piece is hidden in the swamp of National Security.

This is the stuff that is buried because we are told it is not in the public interest.

And yet understanding that relationship - the extent of it, what it involved, who it involved and who knew what and when, is crucial to the truth of the past.

Bring it on, is what they've said already! They don't have anything to lose, everyone already knows what the RA is capable of, every deed was spread across every paper in the land while it was happening. Paisley has more to lose than SF does, regarding any dirty dealings.....

This is pretty 'staggering'.........

OFFICIALS BELIEVED PAISLEY WAS ASSOCIATED WITH TERRORISTS
IAIS (http://www.iais.org/shtmp.cfm?News_ID=5071)
*12/28/07 13:03 EST

Secret British Public Record Office files from 1977 show senior Northern Ireland Office officials believed current First Minister Ian Paisley was associated with loyalist terrorists.

The remarks made by the officials reveal they considered arresting the now First Minister for conspiracy.

Almost 400 confidential state papers from 30 years ago were released but 50 files remain closed.

Among them are documents relating to the economic activities of paramilitary organizations.

The remarks on Mr Paisley were recorded in the minutes of a conversation among senior Stormont officials during the United Ulster Action Council Strike in 1974.

It was suggested that the DUP leader should be arrested for conspiracy.

The documents also show that the military was ready to seize power stations if workers threatened a stoppage.

Yesterday, State papers released in the Irish Republic reveal that Lord Mountbatten, assassinated by the IRA in 1979, was in favor of Irish unity.

Obviously thats the nature of security services, knowing whats going on.

Obviously if they have informers in an org they want them to remain place, and often cannot act on information about planned terrorist attacks for a number of reasons.

This was the problem with Omagh, if they had acted on their informers info as they had previously to foil previous bomb plots there was a good chance his cover would have been blown.
