Gibraltar/Milltown 20th anniversary events
Thursday, March 6
5.30-6pm: West Belfast black flag vigils. Participants are asked to assemble at 5.30pm at the Falls Road Sinn Féin office, at the corner of Beechmount Avenue, at the top of St James’ Road, at the top of Whiterock Road, at the ‘H’ at the top of the Monagh Road, at the gates of Milltown Cemetery and at the Stewartstown Road entrance to Twinbrook.
7pm: St Mary’s University College. ‘Talkback’ event and question-and-answer session. Veteran republican Joe Austin, human rights solicitor Barra McGrory and others will make up the panel with Belfast Media Group Director Máirtín ó Muilleoir in the chair.
Friday, March 7
11am: Long Gallery at Stormont. A Tribute to Mairead Farrell followed by a discussion and a question-and-answer session. Jennifer McCann MLA will chair the event. The panellists are Cllr Angela Nelson, Cllr Tierna Cunningham and Dublin Sinn Féin member Lucilita Bhreathnach. A DVD will be shown and an exhibition will be on display.
Saturday, March 8
11am: Roddy McCorley Club. The Republican Women in Struggle. This event will see a wreath-laying ceremony at the women’s memorial garden, followed by a panel discussion. Sinn Féin activist Aine Hargey will chair the discussion and the panellists will be Carol Ní Chuilin MLA, Cllr Charlene O’Hara and ex-OC of the women POWs, Síle Darragh. A DVD will be shown and an exhibition will be on display.
7pm: Devenish Complex. 20th Anniversary Commemorative Evening. Presentations will be made to the seven families and there will be the first screening of a DVD on the series of events. Speaker on the night will be Martin McGuinness MP MLA, and there will be music by Spirit of Freedom.
Sunday, March 9
2pm: Felons Club. Remember the Milltown Martyrs march and rally. Participants are asked to assemble at Felons Club to proceed to the Republican Plot in Milltown Cemetery for a graveside tribute. The main speaker on the day will be Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams MP MLA.
4pm: Felons Club. A function will be held at the Felons Club after the march and rally, with music again being provided by Spirit of Freedom.
