It has occured to me that the term "no-hoper" has been used by several members of the forum to get a dig in at Republican in the place of "dissident".

I think it should be banned as it has helped de-rail a few threads.

yeah your right McD. censorship is a weapon that the Brits deployed against us. so words like sell outs, touts, collaborators.. should be allowed.

You can, and have, as easily refer to Martin McGuinness as such, either directly or indirectly. The term ''dissidents'' is a different issue.

I don't agree with a ban, however it is being used in the way JUPTRA is saying by a few members with the aim of provoking people.

If you know it is a deliberate provocation, then why react?

because it then becomes the standard expression used. the same as "brits" "stoops" "provos". it isnt a expression that is value free.

Aontaim. I agree.

Words are value laden, but it does not mean they should be banned. A bit of maturity and education goes a long way toward eliminating undesirable behavior.

It's not an insult; it's a perfectly reasonable and acceptable descriptive term for those who advocate failed, hopeless militarism to the detriment of the Irish people.

I think that if someone is childish enough to refer to republicans as terms that they reject just to provoke them that they should just be ignored.
