Teach Yourself Irish (Ó Sé and Sheils)
Book and cd series. Excellent pronunciation section. Extensive grammar in every chapter. Beginner and intermediate level. Based on everyday situations and the aim is to get you conversational and functional in the language. This is positively my favourite. I have literally worn out my first copy and had to buy a second. Published by Hodder and Stoughton.

a lst step in spoken irish with cds is what i am gonna use but i am gonna look at mac talla's book too. B aware dif. dialects munster is easiest methinks at this stage. U may be more advanced than me. I am still hysterical over having to relearn how to pronounce consonants vowels correctly etc. Everyone says one day it just kicks in well i hope to God it does because i feel like kicking someone learning it ahaha

Buntús is a good choice, also. I am just one of those people who needs to know why things happen, so i like grammatical explanations, but if grammar makes your eyes start rolling, then Buntús is great.
